Though smart toilets were first introduced to China in the 90s, not until 2015 did smart toilets really made a big hit. But the annual domestic sales of smart toilets surged to 4.39 billion RMB in 2015, up by 78.5% compared with 2014.

Low Penetration Indicating Huge Market Potentials

However, the penetration rate of smart toilets in China is still less than 1%. According to a survey on Chinas smart toilet industry conducted by China Household Electrical Appliance Association (CHEAA) in 2016, so far there are about 3 - 4 million smart toilets installed in China, mainly in places like 5-star hotels. Therefore, opportunities for enterprises to tap into Chinas market are innumerable. For example, according to the statistics of National Health and Family Planning Commission of PRC, there are over 430 million families in China on average consisting of 3.02 family members. If Chinas penetration rate of smart toilets can gradually rise to 20% (76% in Japan and 50% in Korea), the scale of Chinas smart toilet market can easily exceed 200 billion RMB.

Leading Enterprises Hastening to Enter Smart Toilet Market

Moreover, smart toilets have already arrested the attention of the Chinese government. In the last two years, the government has tighten their supervision on the quality of smart toilets to further regulate market order, which has encouraged Chinas leading enterprises of household appliance, such as Haier, Midea, Gree, etc, to enter this new territory. Due to the lack of experience in this field, some companies resort to cooperation with oversea enterprises in order to overcome technology barriers. For example, last November, Konka, one of Chinas renowned and large-scale household appliance enterprises with annual sales of over 13 billion RMB, has reached an agreement of strategic cooperation with Coway from Korea to develop smart toilets.

It has even been predicted by Mr. Jiang Fengru, Director-General of CHEAA that convenient, sanitary and comfortable, smart toilets will become a major market trend in the future. If you also feel positive about Chinas smart toilet market, please dont hesitate to forge ahead. And 2017 Guangzhou Intl Sanitary Ware Fair (GSW 2017) will be the best platform for you to make your first attempt!
